The market may extend last week's gain on firm Asian stocks, which rose after an encouraging economic data in the US. Trading of the S&P CNX Nifty futures on the Singapore stock exchange indicate that the Nifty could gain 27 points at the opening bell.

The key benchmark surged after swinging wildly from positive and negative terrain in early trade. Asian stocks rose as US payrolls data last week eased market anxiety over chances of a double-dip recession in the world's biggest economy. High beta metal and realty stocks were in thick of the action. Index heavyweight Reliance Industries (RIL) edged higher. The market breadth was strong. All the sectoral indices on BSE were in green. The BSE 30-share Sensex was up 128.90 points or 0.71%, off close to 20 points from the day's high and up close to 230 points from the day's low.

The key benchmark indices hit fresh intraday lows in late trade as profit taking emerged ahead of a crucial economic data in the US later in the global day. US is the world's biggest economy. The BSE 30-share Sensex was provisionally down 29.53 points or 0.16%, off close to 120 points from the day's high. The S&P CNX Nifty fell below the psychological 5,500 mark, after crossing that level at the onset of the trading session. Metal stocks fell. But, fertilizer, hotel, realty and auto stocks rose. Index heavyweight Reliance Industries (RIL) edged lower.

The market snapped last two days' gains. The BSE 30-share Sensex was down 16.88 points or 0.09%, off close to 95 points from the day's high and up close to 15 points from the day's low. The S&P CNX Nifty fell below the psychological 5,500 mark, after crossing that level at the onset of the trading session. Metal stocks fell. But, fertilizer, hotel, realty and auto stocks rose. Index heavyweight Reliance Industries (RIL) edged lower.
