India’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) on Thursday reported a surge of 11.3 per cent in its total sales in May at 1,36,962 vehicles as compared to 1,23,034 vehicles during the same period a year ago.
The domestic sales of carmaker rose by 15.5 per cent to 1,30,676 vehicles during May month, as against 1,13,162 vehicles in May 2016.
However, its exports during the month fell by 36.3 per cent to 6,286 vehicles, as compared to 9,872 vehicles in May last year.
Sales of the compact segment comprising Swift, Celerio, Baleno, Ritz, Ignis and Dzire jumped 10.1 per cent to 51,234 vehicles in May 2017, from 46,554 vehicles last year.
Further, MSIL’s mini segment car sales, including Alto and WagonR grew by 18.1 per cent to 39,089 vehicles as compared to 31,105 vehicles in the year-ago month, the company said in a statement.
The sales of the company’s mid-sized Ciaz in May this year, dropped 8.9 per cent, at 4,724 vehicles, as against 5,188 vehicles in the same period last year.
Moreover, MSIL’s utility vehicles sales, including Gypsy, Ertiga, Vitara Brezza and S-Cross jumped 66.3 per cent to 22,608 vehicles in May 2017, as against 13,596 vehicles in the corresponding month of 2016.
The sales of the company’s vans segment, including Omni and Eeco witnessed a surge of 3.5 per cent to 12,593 vehicles in May month, as compared to 12,164 vehicles during the same period of 2016, the company said.
Meanwhile, shares of the company were trading at Rs 7,150 apiece, down 0.90 per cent, from previous close on BSE at 12:28 hours.
