Larsen & Toubro has launched a Floating Dock (FDN-2) designed and built for the Indian Navy at its greenfield shipyard at Kattupalli, north of Chennai.
The floating dock was lowered into the waters of the Bay of Bengal by Anjali Deshpande in the presence of her spouse Vice Admiral D.M. Deshpande, Controller Warship Production and Acquisition of Indian Navy, JD Patil, Senior Executive Vice-President & Whole time Director (Designate) - Defence, Larsen & Toubro and B Kannan, MD & CEO L&T Shipbuilding.
L&T was mandated by the Defence ministry in May 2015 to design and build the FDN-2 for an order value of Rs 468 crore.
On completion of the launch, FDN-2 would be put through a series of harbour trials before delivery to the Navy. Once operationalised, it would enhance the technical repair infrastructure of the Navy for ships based in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands as well as for visiting naval ships, said Patil.
Meanwhile, shares of the company closed trading at Rs 1751.50 apiece, up 0.16 per cent from the previous close on BSE.
