Wheat sowing has remained largely flat at 32.26 million hectares in the ongoing 2024–25 rabi season, while the area under pulses and oilseeds has increased marginally compared with a year ago, according to data released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.
Wheat, the country’s main rabi (winter) crop, had been sown over 32.24 million hectares during the same period last year. The total wheat acreage stood at 32.8 million hectares in the 2023–24 rabi season.
Sowing of wheat and other rabi crops typically begins in October, with harvesting starting from March. The government data indicated that planting of wheat and other major rabi crops is nearly complete for the current season.
