Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, are expected to open on a muted note today, December 26, tracking subdued cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading flat around 26,140.5. The domestic markets ended marginally lower in the previous session on December 24 after a volatile day of trade, as muted volumes prevailed ahead of the Christmas holiday.

On Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 85408.7 down by -116.14 points or by -0.14 % and then NSE Nifty was at 26142.1 down by -35.05 points or by -0.13 %.

On the global front, Asian markets started Friday on a stronger note, even as several regional exchanges remained shut for the Boxing Day holiday. Core consumer prices in Tokyo rose 2.3 per cent year-on-year in December, staying above the Bank of Japan’s 2 per cent target, according to government data on Friday. Last checked, Japan's Nikkei 225 index rose 0.93 per cent, and South Korea's KOSPI was up 0.73 per cent. Australia and Hong Kong markets were closed for the holiday. US markets settled in positive territory following a broader rally during a holiday-shortened session on Wednesday. The S&P 500 rose 0.32 per cent to hit record highs, the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.22 per cent, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.6 per cent.

Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 3919248 with a total turnover of Rs. 266640.49 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 47784003 with a total turnover of Rs. 9394178.15 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 10209033 with a total turnover of Rs. 721704.79 Crore.

The FIIs on 24/12/2025 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 7461.12 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 374.95 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 8808.79 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1184.56 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -1347.67 Crore and Rs. -809.61
