Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty are expected to open on a negative note on February 4, mirroring weak signals from GIFT Nifty, which was trading lower around the 25,810 mark in early trade.
Further, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will initiate its three-day meeting today.
In the previous session, however, domestic equities posted their strongest single-day rally in nearly nine months, with both indices surging over 2.5 percent. The sharp gains were driven by improved investor sentiment after India and the United States finalized a trade agreement, under which Washington agreed to reduce reciprocal tariffs on Indian goods.
On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 83739.13 up by 2072.67 points or by 2.54 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25727.55 up by 639.15 points or by 2.55 %.
On the global front, Asian markets traded mixed on Wednesday morning amid a lack of major triggers. Mainland China’s CSI 300 was down 0.29 per cent, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng slipped 0.05 per cent, and Japan’s Nikkei lost 0.61 per cent. Conversely, South Korea’s Kospi gained 0.54 per cent.
Overnight, Wall Street indices closed lower as investors rotated out of technology stocks and into shares more broadly linked to economic improvements. At close, the Dow Jones was down 0.34 per cent, the S&P 500 lost 0.84 per cent, and the Nasdaq dropped 1.43 per cent.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 762.64 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 174055.95 Crore. On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 404748 with a total turnover of Rs. 69082.32 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 2212163 with a total turnover of Rs. 150602.36 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 417821616 with a total turnover of Rs. 70036052.40 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 8724490 with a total turnover of Rs. 602997.58 Crore.
The FIIs on 03/02/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 15884.64 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 114.36 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 17002.06 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 36.58 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -1117.42 Crore and Rs. 77.78
