The Centre has disbursed over Rs 4.27 lakh crore under the PM-Kisan scheme since its launch in February 2019, benefiting crores of farmers through 22 installments.
Under the scheme, eligible farmers receive Rs 6,000 annually in three equal installments via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. In the 21st installment released in November 2025, over 9.35 crore farmers received financial assistance.
Impact assessments by institutions including IFPRI and NITI Aayog indicate that the scheme has boosted rural economic growth, improved farmers’ income, and enhanced investment in agricultural inputs. Over 90% of beneficiaries reportedly used the funds for farming activities, with many experiencing higher income and reduced dependence on informal credit.
To improve accessibility, the government has introduced digital tools such as the ‘Farmers Corner’ portal and the AI-based chatbot ‘Kisan e-Mitra’, which provides real-time assistance in multiple languages.
The scheme continues to play a key role in supporting farmers’ financial stability and strengthening India’s rural economy.
