Benchmark indices Nifty50 and Sensex snapped their five-session gaining streak as rising oil prices weighed on sentiment amid a fragile US-Iran ceasefire.
However, broader markets outperformed the benchmarks, with the Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap indices ending higher by 0.25 per cent and 0.20 per cent, respectively.
On the sectoral front, banking stocks lagged, with the Nifty Private Bank and Nifty Bank indices underperforming their peers, while the Nifty Metal index emerged as the top gainer for the session.
The 30-share benchmark index ended at 76631.65 down by -931.25 points or by -1.2 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23775.1 down by -222.25 points or by -0.93 %.
