Zaakpay, a wholly owned subsidiary of One MobiKwik Systems Limited, has partnered with Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) and the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) to digitize bus ticketing in Odisha through a WhatsApp-based service.
The initiative, developed with PeLocal as the integration partner and Zaakpay as the payment gateway, aims to simplify access for over 24 million annual commuters and 36 million rides across the state. The service is now live in nine major cities including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Khordha, Pipili, Puri, Konark, Rourkela, Sambalpur, and Berhampur.
Through the chat-based system, commuters can book tickets, view past transactions, access FAQs, and provide feedback—all within WhatsApp in both English and Odia. Payments can be made via UPI, debit/credit cards, and net banking, ensuring a seamless and cashless experience.
Zaakpay Vice President & Business Head Abhishek Mukherji said the initiative would redefine mobility by offering commuters a simple and frictionless digital payment experience. CRUT Managing Director Dr. N Thirumala Naik, IAS, emphasized that the solution aligns with the agency’s vision of smarter, more inclusive urban transport.
Vibhor Jain, Acting CEO and COO of ONDC, added that the integration demonstrates how open networks can unlock public transport inventory and build the foundation for future multimodal mobility in India.
Zaakpay, licensed by the RBI as a Payment Aggregator since April 2025, already powers digital payments for key transport players including Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), and Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL).
