India and South Korea concluded the 12th round of negotiations to upgrade the India-Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IK CEPA) in New Delhi from May 25 to 27, 2026.
The discussions were held following the commitment made by both countries in April 2026 to accelerate negotiations and strengthen economic cooperation. Officials from both sides reviewed progress across key areas, including Trade in Goods, Trade in Services, Rules of Origin, Investment, and Sanitary and Phytosanitary standards.
The two countries also acknowledged the rise in India's trade deficit with South Korea since the CEPA came into effect in 2010 and agreed to address the issue within the broader framework of the agreement.
To deepen collaboration in emerging sectors, both sides decided to establish dedicated sub-groups focusing on digital trade, supply chain resilience and strategic industrial cooperation.
India and South Korea reaffirmed their commitment to conclude the CEPA upgrade negotiations in a time-bound manner, aiming to create a modern, balanced and mutually beneficial trade agreement that supports stronger bilateral economic ties.
