Coal India Ltd (CIL) reported a 7.5% year-on-year decline in coal production to 169.6 million tonnes (MT) during the April–June quarter of FY27, compared with 183.3 MT in the corresponding period last year.
The decline came despite strong demand from the power sector, which witnessed record electricity consumption during the summer months. Coal India accounts for more than 80% of India's total coal production.
