The Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science & Technology (DST) has extended financial assistance to Sonic Biochem Extractions Pvt. Ltd. for the development and commercialization of Functional and Textured Soya Protein Concentrates (FSPC and TSPC) using the company's indigenous technology.
The project involves setting up a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Indore for commercial-scale production of advanced plant-based protein ingredients. By utilizing indigenously produced Soya Protein Concentrate (SPC) instead of imported Soya Protein Isolate (SPI), the technology is expected to reduce production costs, lower import dependence, and strengthen India's self-reliance in the plant protein industry.
The protein concentrates will cater to applications in processed foods, plant-based meat alternatives, nutritional supplements, and functional food products, while also creating export opportunities and supporting domestic food manufacturers with cost-effective, high-quality raw materials.
According to TDB Secretary Rajesh Kumar Pathak, the initiative aligns with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision by promoting value addition, reducing imports, enhancing global competitiveness, and creating new export opportunities for India's food processing sector.
